To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade? … That is the Question

March 21st, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Hey Everyone. Sorry for not writing in awhile. Between my online endeavors and taking care of household chores and two children, I’ve been a bit distracted. Don’t worry though, I’m learning to refocus my time and energy. Who would have thought that setting a schedule for myself would make me more productive ( I know, I’m a bit slow ). Now if I can just stop checking my stats every five minutes I just might get some real work done.

So of all the topics I want to write about ( trust me, I have pages of thoughts and ideas ), I really wanted to discuss the value and pitfalls of “upgrading”.
Since I’m a total Upgrade Whore, I have a bit of experience. FIVE F’N YEARS WORTH!! So I really Really and REALLY feel that, this could be the most important post you’ll ever read, about …”When and Why to Upgrade in ANY program or online Money Making Scheme!!”

scheme (skm)
n.
1. A systematic plan of action: “Did you ever carry out your scheme of writing a series of sonnets embodying all the great epochs of art?” Edith Wharton.
2. A secret or devious plan; a plot. See Synonyms at plan.
3. An orderly combination of related parts: an irrigation scheme with dams, reservoirs, and channels.
4. A chart, diagram, or outline of a system or object

.
I decided to divide this post into four sections. Mainly so I could stay focused and not confuse anyone ( or myself ).

1 – Establish your needs and intentions.
Simply Upgrading in a program will not ensure your financial well being. How will upgrading your membership benefit you?. Do you plan on promoting for referrals? Will you make more money? How quickly do you hope to make a profit? Or are you expecting everything to fall in your lap ( errr, paypal account )? Most programs say they will give you “Free Referrals” as an Upgraded member, but keep in mind that some of those referrals will be non active. Plus, if your expecting to receive a hundred free referrals a day, just because your a “Super Cool Upgraded Member”… Think again. You’ll be lucky to get a couple freebies a week. You need to decide how much time and effort your going to put into a program. If your not planning on taking full advantage of your upgraded status.. then DON’T BOTHER. Save your money.

2 – Know the Program your thinking about Upgrading in.
Okay, I’m soooo guilty of this. You see an ad for something that says that you “Can Make $1,000,000 a day” by simply upgrading your account, and letting their “PROVEN” system do ALL the work for you. You ( I ) just gotta have that Premium Membership. Right?

Seriously!! Before you start spending that hard earned paypal cash to chase your dreams of instant wealth. Please do a bit of “Due Diligence”. That means, do your research first people!!. Throw some searches out to google or yahoo, or whichever search tool you use. Adding the word “scam” after the programs name in a google search will often pull up some interesting results. Remember though. Just because ONE person had a bad experience, doesn’t mean you should instantly pass judgment. Browse forums, ask people, do some more searching. Also, look into the companies ( programs ) history. How long have they been in business? .. trust me, that hour you spend researching, is nothing compared to the countless hours your going to spend bitching and moaning in forums, when you aren’t making any money.

3 – Everything is “THE BEST OFFER EVER!!”
The Marketing Gurus of the world have devised sales letters and tactics that are pretty darn clever and convincing. “UNADVERTISED BONUS” “YOU WILL NEVER SEE THIS OFFER AGAIN!!” “YOU WON’T SUCCEED WITHOUT THIS EBOOK!!”.

blah blah blah..trust me ( again ). If your around long enough, you WILL see these offers again. Everyday!! I’m not saying that everything is crap and that you shouldn’t take advantage of some of these “ONE TIME ONLY OFFERS”. Just think “Do I need this?” Will committing to a $10 monthly subscription or upgrade be put to good use?

Once again…“ESTABLISH YOUR NEEDS AND INTENTIONS”.

4 – The $10 per year upgrade is your safest investment
ClixSense and Wordlinx are two great programs that offer a yearly upgrade of only $10. Now your not going to make $100 a month this way. I used the word “Safest” in this topic. Meaning that if all your going to do is click your ads everyday, then, both these well established programs will keep you happy and sane.

What a $10 upgrade does for you, is gives you more ads to click on everyday. Usually twenty or more is a good number. Really depends on who’s out there advertising that day. I can pretty much promise that your going to make your $10 back within a couple months. With Wordlinx, that’s pretty much all you get is more ads to click on. With ClixSense you not only get more ads, but more earning opportunities if your active in shopping your referral link ( picking up referrals ).

In closing. Please think long and hard about why you want and need to upgrade your membership in any program. I know we are only human, and we all want to make a butt load of money “TOMORROW”, but please. Don’t come crying and moaning to me because you blew your rent money on a program that can’t possibly sustain itself. Or goes belly up as soon as you upgrade. Research, pay attention, and have a plan.

Good Luck and as always,

I’m a pretty approachable kinda guy. Please don’t be afraid to send me an email or follow me on Twitter. Yeah, you can even post a comment on this blog.

Oh crap!! I almost forgot.

So after years of staring at the GDI ads ( Global Domains International ), I decided to give it a closer look and practice a bit of “DD”. Long story short. I’m IN!!! . Well, actually Tuesday I’m in. I’ve got my sponsor set, my ad budget set and my plan of attack ready to go. Would anyone be interested in reading something like “My GDI Journal” everyday? It’s just an idea and I thought it would be fun and informative to follow what I do with GDI on a day by day basis. I promise to keep it honest and log my every move with GDI.

Okay, I’m done for today.
Take care

Phil

Great article Phil, nice and informative. And I’ll be keeping my eye out for your GDI article, sounds like you’ve got your plan of action all set. Good luck!

I am looking forward to the continuing adventures of Phil in the land of online cash. I’d be quite interested in following your journey through GDI

Not a word out of place. I would be very interested to know how you get on with GDI. I’ve always discounted it as just another Pyramid scheme so any news of your efforts would be gratefully received.

Thanks guys!! Fine, I’ll get something set up for GDI. I can promise you though.. I’m probably not going to call it a “Journal”.

Great information. Yes I would be interested in hearing about your GDI experience. I joined GDI when it first started and didn’t stay in (Loud Groan in the background). Recently I was convinced to take another look at it by someone I trust and now am a GDIer or whatever we are called.

I am marketing it as a hosting service with a money making opportunity instead of a money making opportunity that happens to have a hosting service thrown in and my fried was right. You can still make money with GDI even though as one person put it, “Everybody and their dog has heard about GDI.” Only took a couple of weeks and now it is paying for itself.

Keep us posted and any ideas would be great.

    Thanks

P.S I like your open and approachable writing style.

I’ve been in GDI three times and I guess I lost my focus..or never had it to begin with but I could never make a go of it. I’ve gotten in all three times through another program that promised to “help me build my gdi downline” and got absolutely no support from them. One was the spiderweb marketing system and the last one was the people search thing being touted all over the internet as the next Google. (yeah right)

Oh and let’s not forget those people who promise to pay your way in. All that ever seems to do is perpetuate laziness. Yeah they pay your first month, but once they get their quota and their big fat check they forget all about you. In the meantime they have everyone working frantically to send them at least two people to help pay them back for their trouble and you have problems getting them for yourself and where are they then?

There was only one thing about GDI that I didn’t like and that was for me the hosting wasn’t enough for the type of sites I build. They don’t allow for script setup. It’s windows only, no linnux, so it just wasn’t worth my while. But as far as being able to make money I guess it’s a pretty good program for getting newbies in.

Anyway, good luck to you, hope you do better than I did.

    @Rebecca Beasley
Thanks Becky!! I’m still going full steam ahead with GDI, but this gives me more insight. I’m actually looking at three people that I would love to help by paying their way in for three months ( Ryan, Adam and Ellie ) up front. Only because I know that they would be great team leaders / sponsors and are honest, hardworking, and would be great for my team. I think that the key to my success will be promoting teamwork and honesty and of course not being greedy.
I haven’t even explored the website / hosting. It really wasn’t something I was interested in… although the email is pretty darn cool.
    Thank you again
    Your comment was very helpful

    Hi There,
I would absolutely like to read more about your GDI progress, I recently joined just like Rebecca from the People Search-thingy, which led to the webpage I added here, if in case anyone just wants to take a look at what you get (the domain is hosted by GDI, the extra content from several affiliate programs, the core with people-searching is from the PS Tissa-guy). Please inform us poor semi-dedicated beings out here that still wish to take the right two or three steps, compared to the twenty or thirty ones you probably will take, mistakes and trials included ;o). You are doing great with your blog!
