Focus, organize, follow-through!… How many resolutions do you have?

December 28th, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

As the year winds down, we start thinking about “resolutions” and what we are going to do differently in the new year. I don’t know about your list.. but mine is quite daunting!

I literally wrote down about twenty things that I’d like to improve, change or do better; both online and off. Everything from promoting certain programs more, to building my blog subscriber list, to getting back into bodybuilding, to following certain marketing strategies, to starting a new blog called “Every Thing Phil Says”, to following through on my second blog “Almost Smoking” to playing more games with my kids.. to to to.. arrrghhh..

Where to start??

Oh Oh Oh, I know this answer.

We Just Start! We stop making excuses for all the “Why we Can’ts” and we start finding ways to make the things we want to change, change.

My big excuse is that life is busy and I can’t find the time. Excuses excuses, get over it Phil. I can find the time to do a lot of things, so those things must have priority over the bigger picture and where I want to be in a year. Not tomorrow… a Year.

Tomorrow is too soon, but a year. I think I can whittle away at some of my twenty resolutions in that time. Now I just have get past the “F” Word.. FOCUS.

Carl Bailey wrote a post this week that I’ve been reading over and over again. Carl often writes some pretty thought provoking shit, but his latest is a fantastic post to start the new year with.

I’m still reading and dissecting it, and I’ll probably do so for the rest of January.

Carl was nice enough to allow me to use it as a guest post on this blog so I wanted to share it with you today. Whether your a newbie to the online money making scene or a seasoned veteran who is still struggling with the “F” word.. I encourage you to read Carl’s post and then read it again.

Focus, organize, follow-through! by Carl Bailey

Focus, organize, follow-through!

I have a couple of busy websites that relate to online marketing.

As other admins and site-owners can probably verify… BOTH the front and back doors of any busy site, are in constant need of new hinges!

Newbies come out of the woodwork on a daily basis, from all parts unknown… lol

They open the front doors of many, many programs… and then fall prey to a MASSIVE information overload, as well as myriads of new and unfamiliar activities.

After juggling like maniacs, for as long as patience and pocketbooks holdout… this seemingly endless stream of newbies, bolts out the backdoor, faster than their impressive entrance!

Overwhelmed and unprepared, they succumb, as sacrificial lambs to the marketing slaughter.

Why does this happen – AND SO OFTEN?

In my opinion, this happens as a direct result of unrealistic expectations.

I honestly think that most newbies believe there is something magical, money-laden, and miraculous about online marketing!

If they are lucky enough to be in the right program, at just the right moment… it may spill HUGE PILES of money on everyone involved!

I know this sounds flip.

But, honestly, many newbies seem to believe that money can rain down from an internet business, without much, or any, expenditure of time, money, or effort!

Moreover, it seems that they might also believe… online marketing takes ZERO skill, education, or experience!

Now, few people would approach any “off-line” business with that ridiculous belief-structure in place.

As with any off-line business, newbies MUST:

- FOCUS on one activity at a time
- ORGANIZE their efforts for that activity
- FOLLOW-THROUGH to fruition, with that activity

That is the EXACT same formula that we all utilized while growing up!

It’s how we learned the rules of the games we played, how we found our groove in little league, how we learned to function in school, and how we found out how to perform at our first jobs.

Just because one turns to the internet to earn an income, doesn’t mean one can throw out this basic formula!

It only means that we can work at home, in our underwear… lol

Yes, I admit it!

    Phil,

    The very title of this article speaks volumes to me because Lord knows I need to improve in all areas of F.O.F.

    Yeah, this is a busy day and age we live in. Everyone running around with so much to do but seemingly not enough time to do it all. But I tell myself I have to MAKE time to take time. I will definitely tell myself that more in the new year.

    Wow, what a great article to help me roll 2010 on outta here so I can embrace 2011!

    Thanks Phil!

    I have a different view of New Year Resolutions. To me, a new year is a new day. So rather that set aside a special day mfor making a resolution (so after breaking it soon therafter-with great disappointment) I try to make ‘em on a daily basis. Being perfectly human, I’m still working on it!

    @Eddy Salomon

    Happy New Year to you and your family Eddy… It’s going to kick ass for both of us.

    What is this…Phil and Eddy’s second anniversary? You know my ups and downs over the last two years, here’s to more Ups and less downs.

    @Callie

    First off.. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you Callie!!!

    One of the things I’ve talked to Eddy about recently was; as bloggers are we being to vague.

    I, Carl, Eddy or whoever can write an inspirational post, can throw a lot of words out there but does it leave the rest of the world still scratching their head?

    Personally, I want to connect more with the 97% that isn’t making money online. Let ‘em know what I’m joining, what I’m doing and how I’m doing it. Not just writing.. “Hey Y’all, Join this” type posts, which I really don’t do anyways.. but you get the idea.

    I think I’m going to challenge Carl to “Follow through” and give an actual example or two.

    Thanks again for the comment Callie,,, always a pleasure.

    @Robert Martinez

    I couldn’t agree more Robert, but New Years for most of us is a time for “renewal”, a time for change. Basically a day to reflect on what we’ve screwed up or underachieved at in the previous year and vow to fix ourselves. Of course as you mentioned, most of us will break our resolutions before we even get started. I guess that’s just another example of the 97% failure rate, right?

    If you’ve followed my ramblings for any length of time, you’ll know I make resolutions almost weekly ( or is that just called whining )

    Happy New Year to you and your family.

    @Philsfault

    Happy New Year to you too Phil!!

    I know whatcha about the vagueness. Unfortunately, some bloggers are. However, quite the contrary especially with you and Eddy. You guys are spot on. You are yourselves and simply tell it like it is … clearly. Many other bloggers can definitely take copious notes of you guys’ writing style.

    You guys already have all the right ingredients in your inspirational posts. There will always be the “head scratchers” regardless. Some just won’t get it.

    You guys are genuine, so in terms of connecting with that 97% … that will come naturally :)

    Hopefully Carl will take you up on your challenge. It’s a good one.

    All the best!

    @Callie

    Oh Gosh Callie, your way too sweet. No wonder Eddy has a big head, you praise him way too much…LOL. You should ask Eddy how we first met; it’s pretty funny.

    I really appreciate your kind words and deffinately wish you all the best not only in the New Year but Everyday.

    Now lets Kick Some Ass In 2011!!

    @Philsfault

    LOL,

    Well half of that praise was for you Phil!

    Lord knows I’m not trying to increase anyone’s head size lol, but I am a firm believer in giving praise to whom it’s due. Both you and Eddy deserve it for keeping up the GREAT work that you both do!

    I love to get my laugh on so I’ll have to remember to ask Eddy about how you two met.

    Bring on 2011 … Already got my ass kickin’ clothes on!!!!

    @Philsfault

    Oops, where are my manners …

    Thank you Phil for your kind well wishes. I appreciate them much!

    Hi Phil! I’ve been following you almost as long as I’ve been following Eddy,I’ve just never commented (tsk tsk I know lol). Anyway this post was just great,so I figured I’d end my silence lol. For me,when it comes to resolutions,either new years or just in general,I can’t make up a bunch at one time,I break them up into short term goals.This seems to work much better for me. My first goal of the new year? Getting my blog up and going. WordPress has been giving me a headache,for some reason I just can’t wrap my head around it,but I’m going to lol. I refuse to pay to have it built because I view it as schooling I need to complete for future projects. I refuse to give up,my goal is to have it up and operational by Feb.1st. Thats all i have to say for now,everyone keep chugging along and MAKE this a good year for yourselves. Happy new years Phil.

    Dustin the normally freezing redneck,signing out.

    @Dustin

    Thanks for the comment Dustin!!

    The awesome thing about WordPress is that it’s pretty much automatic, plug and play if you will. Just choose a theme and start writing.

    the attentive folks over at http://wordpress.org/ can give you further assistance if needed.

    Other than that, the thing with New Years and resolutions is that it gives most people the feeling and “excuse” to make changes in their lives. Of course I could easily make resolutions in July; which I pretty much do anyways. New Years Eve and the start of a new year just gets everyone all warm and fuzzy and ready to stop screwing up and making excuses. Too bad it’s short lived for most of us.

    Thanks for chiming in and hope to not only see your blog up and running soon but also see more comments. Eddy’s a pretty swell guy as well so don’t be afraid to bug him every so often.

    Happy New Years Buddy…

    Phil ( yup it’s 2:30AM and I’m still awake ) Ames

    Hi Phil, I have seen your picture on the ICS map several times it is a fun program. I am writing to suggest that you join OnBux if you have not done so. I have been a member for several months and when I started I decided that I would reinvest my earnings in rented referrals until I rent 10 referrals and then take the remainder I had in cash as profit. I started renting 3 per week this lasted for about a month at which time i started to have the money to rent 5 a week. I then continued to rent 5 a week and activated auto pay to extend the number of days active referrals were kept. I am now able to do 10 a week, and every two to three weeks am able to withdraw the site minimum. Which starts at 2 dollars and goes up to 10 dollars in 1 dollar increments. I have also built my number of rented referrals up to around 80 and climbing with this plan. This plan is working so far and I have spent no out of pocket funds to do it. I have only used my profit from the site to build up the downline. I expect it to continue to grow slowly until I reach the max number of referrals then I will keep it at maintenance level. If you are not a member of OnBux and would like to check out the site here is my referral link. http://www.onbux.com/?rh=788161e53c3bfeb04ee157dc79687ec6

    @Robert OBrien

    Hey Robert,

    So this is the second comment tonight I’ve fished out of my spam filter. The reason I approved it is because:

    1 – I am a member of OnBux. I haven’t talked about it here yet because I haven’t reached the minimum payout yet. I see no problem with the program, but it’s just one of many that I play with

    2 – Although I don’t endorse the renting of referrals on ANY site I like the fact that you are able to manage your rentals and build your earnings without spending your own money. I just feel that most of us who mess with rented refs will ( and do ) lose money.

    I’m leaving your referral link in for onbux because you shared more relevant guidance and didn’t just say “Hey Y’all, join this”. I delete a ton of those types of comments weekly.

    Anyways

    thanks for chiming in and good luck with OnBux and ICS.

    Phil
