Long Overdue WP Update. Where’s my SEO?
Updates Complete and All issues resolved!! I’m now on the path to SEO greatness! Or something close to it =P.
Update 3.6.2.Arrrggghh – So although the updates and downloads went well, I’m still having issues. My goal today was finally getting this blog updated to the current WP version and moving forward with my efforts for better SEO ( search engine optimization ). My current issue is with my previous site redirect, that connects philsfault.com to philsfault.com/blog1. I’m not going to explain it, primarily because I don’t quite understand it myself ( well, some things but not all the techy type stuff ). Basically, in order to keep the pages of this blog flowing smoothly, I had to change my permalinks ( individual page address’s ) to the WP default setting, which I’m pretty sure is very un-SEO friendly. So yeah, everything is loading and operating smoothly, but I took a few steps back today as well as a few steps forward ( isn’t that a song? )
Updating to WP 2.8.4 was easy and painless. Thanks to the “Wordpress Automatic Upgrade” plugin that I found while searching the WP Help Files. Everything was automatic and I didn’t even have to do my own back ups or delete anything. Very cool. I did have to upload the unzipped WAU file to Filezilla, but that was easy. Anyways, just quickly installed the “All SEO Pack” and now I’m off to play with that.
this post will self destruct in 24 hours
Today is the day I’ve been dreading all summer. Today is the day I finally update this blog to WP 2.8.4. If anyone has a WordPress Blog and has looked at the daunting task of deleting and backing up files in order to successfully and smoothly ( smoothly?? ) transition to the latest version of WP, then you know for us “not so techy” type folks it can look very intimidating. It does to me, and I kinda sorta know what I’m doing half the time.
So wish me luck and if things look weird, jumbled or if you see the occasional expletive flash across your screen, well you know whats going on. For sure I will be off line at some point today, lets hope it’s not for more than an hour or so.
When I’m back and all updated and stuff, I should have a lot of my issues resolved ( with my blog, not my life ) and finally get on the road to having a lean, mean, and fully SEOptimized blog machine.
Have a great day everyone.
Phil ( philsfault ) Ames
